How To Overcome Depression And Other Negative Emotions

The world is filled with so much negativity and uncertainties. There's no doubt about that. If it's not Coronavirus today, it is Earthquakes, hunger, the death of a loved one, unemployment, inflation, false accusations and injustice, and many other vices. Each day with its own challenges.

No matter how strong you are as a human, you can't completely shut your mind against these things on your own. Somehow they must get to you once in a while and break you down.

Once that happens, you find yourself depressed, frustrated and desperate. Nothing makes sense or means anything to you. You begin to doubt your beliefs and believe your doubts.

How Do You Stay Calm As A Christian In The Midst Of All The Happenings In The World?

First, rest on God's promises for you. It's not always the easiest thing to do, but it is doable. God has promised to be there with you and for you. In the midst of all the happenings in the world, keep your eyes on Him.

Isaiah 26:3  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

That's the only way to remain at peace no matter what happens around. Remaining at peace here does not mean everything will go perfect, exactly the way you want. No, it doesn't!

It simply means that in spite of all that is happening around you, you tell yourself "God gat my back! He gat me, so I'm not shaking one bit!"

You say to yourself, "the entire world may be flooded with water. But I'm not drowning in it. I'd remain afloat. The whole world may be burning down. But no fire is scorching my skin. Not even the hairs on my body can be burnt."

It's not a denial of facts. It's rather you stating your reality in Christ, based on God's promises. Like the ones found in the scriptures below.

Isaiah 43:1  But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 

Isaiah 43:2  When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 

Take a look at those scriptures one more time. Those are God's promises to you. Bind them to your heart and meditate on them till their meaning dawns deeply on you!

Apart from that, I have found out that when I am down, things turn up pretty quick for me when I reach out to bless and encourage others. Do you know that no matter what you are going through now, there's someone out there that is presently going through worse or less?

Reach out to such fellows and encourage their hearts with the love of God. You will be very surprised how much lighter your own burdens will become in an instant in your eyes. All of a sudden you just see your problems the true way they have always been- insignificant!

By talking with others and encouraging them, we find out that our own problems are nothing but monkeys wearing the skin of a lion. They are not really as big or dreadful as they seem

Go out there and talk with someone. Pick up your phone and call or text them some nice words that will lift their hearts. Be a blessing to others, both financially and otherwise. Let people experience the love of God through you. Believe me, there is no feeling in this world that will beat the kind of satisfaction you will get from that!

Another way to stay positive always is by pouring out your heart to God through prayers. Without mincing words, pour out everything to Him, exactly the way it's hurting you. Exactly the way you are feeling it. Do not be scared of being wrong or not doing it in a specific pattern. This is your father, best friend and companion we're talking about here. Not just some distant, mean and hard-to-please fellow.

By pouring out your heart to God, you receive answers to even the toughest challenge. The Wisdom to handle it will just drop on you like cold water on a very sunny afternoon. If everything thing else has failed, give prayer a chance. Even when the answer doesn't seem forthcoming, keep at it. Don't back down. Have the resolve that it's not over until I win!

No matter what you are going through today, no matter the situation the world has found itself in today, the Lord says...

"just be still and you will know that I am God! I created you and know how to do a better job at keeping you safe. Don't give in to fear, doubts or worry. Let me do my job for you. Let me vindicate you. Let me intervene on your behalf. Let me handle it for you. Let me do for you what only I can and knows exactly how to do it. I am God and I never fail. Just be still and you will see my wonders on your behalf!"
